Goodbye summer

Summer seems a distant memory now with the nights drawing in early and we say hello to the frosty mornings and cold chilly days.  No doubt you’ll have been digging out your coats and scarfs. It’s wrapping up warm time again!
 
The kids have returned back to school and settled back into routine again. My thoughts are now turning to Halloween activities and days out for the kids in my local area of the Southeast. I have 2 boys, aged 11…. going on 18….. And a feisty 4 year old to keep me on my toes.
 
So as we embrace Autumn, I personally have to say this is one of my favourite times of year. I absolutely love the changing colours of the trees – so beautiful don’t you think? Don’t get me wrong all seasons are lovely, but this has to be my absolute fav.
 
Shops are filling up with Halloween goodies now and also the odd Christmas bits. The dreaded C word….ugh….. Despite selling my Christmas Mini Sessions early and loving the exciting build up of it all for my boys, I have to admit, i’m never really ready for the big day! Knowing me I will be still shopping on Christmas Eve lol. Who are these people that start their shopping in August anyway?? “I’ve finished now and it’s all wrapped”…….. its not even November…..wow! Can you do mine for me?
 
Going back to the topic of Autumn, and with Halloween fast approaching, I wanted to share with you my top 5 Halloween activities for the kids in the Southeast:

1. Priory Farm South Nuffield
 
I’ve been with my boys a few times now they loved it. Its located in Surrey’s beautiful surroundings.
Actives include Tractor rides where they will pick you up from the entrance and take you to the Pumpkin Field. You can then choose and pick your pumpkin.
 
There is also a Spooky Trail Walk where you can win a prize (packet of Haribo’s). It costs £3 per person where you are given questions and clues in order to win your prize. They say it takes approx. 45mins,  but it took a bit longer with my kids. Spooky things pop up to taunt you along the way, but they are not too scary for the little ones – it’s a lovely day out for the kids and worth a visit.

So great for children who love dressing up! They can put on their costumes and do lots of Halloween games and crafty bits. They also put on a disco at the end and an additional evening train.
 
 
3. Heaver Castle

Another great find. My kids have not actually done this one, but lots of my Mummy friends have been to this and raved about it. They insist it deserves a mention in my top 5 halloween days out with the kids.

Take the kids to the castle and let them find the hidden bats. The older kids can read the gruesome Victorian tales along the way. 

 

Like the previous place, they have a competition for the best fancy dressed person and there is halloween crafts to do. You can also get the kids faces painted to a halloween theme. They have a Spooky story telling area which is daily throughout half term. Times 1130 1230 1430 1530 1630.

Also the grounds look simply stunning in Autumn – Worth a visit for that alone. 

 

 
This one is located in Maidstone Kent.
 
We went to this a few years back with the kids and they absolutely loved it. They loved seeing the Castle and they do have different activates each year – we are going to go again this year. If your little ones love dressing up as Monsters then this is your place to go! They have a halloween “Monster Academy” and prizes for the best fancy dress, along with a “Monster Mash Ball” from 12pm to 3pm.
 
There is also a Woodland Walk… Please note there are additional charges for this.
 
And finally my last top 5 place to visit with the kids for halloween…….
 
5.  has to be Tulley’s Farm
 
Tully’s Shocktober Fest is more for adults and teens – I hear it’s quite scary and not to be missed. But they do have a family version of halloween without getting too frightened…
 
“Spook Fest” is for all ages, with additional Haunted House attractions aimed at 6-13 year olds. I took my boys and they were fine with all the attractions that we did – there was plenty to do.
 
They have a Pumpkin Show throughout the day with some songs and dancing for the kids. Plus “the most enthusiastic pumpkin grower” –  how to grow your pumpkin from just the beans.

Scary Karaoke has everyone blasting out all spooky songs. It’s great fun for all ages, thought I admit I didn’t get involved in this one as I can’t sing for toffee! I didn’t want to scare away all the other guest, even if it was halloween lol.
 
The Haunted Hayride is not as scary as the adult one, but make sure your little ones are comfortable being made to jump, as there are various people and props jumping out from time to time. It is a good one to do.
 
There are also lots of spooky hunts and Trails for all ages, as well as Puppet Shows. The singing Chicken was the highlight of my 3 year olds day…..
You can book on line which I’d recommend as they do get booked up very quickly, but I can say its well worth it though.
