Jacob’s First Birthday Cake Smash

 

A Cake Smash is a fantastic fun way to celebrate your little one’s first birthday. We held Jacob’s just a few days before his birthday at his home in Crawley, West Sussex.

 

Sometime parents can be concerned about the mess that may occur when they have a  Cake Smash in their home, much like Jacob’s Dad. Is there mess? absolutely. But you don’t need to worry about cake being trodden in your carpet or having it all over your house; everything is contained to my backdrop. Quickly re-assured how contained it would be and easily cleaned away, we began the session.

 

I wanted to capture some special images of Jacob so they could be hung proudly on their wall at home. For this reason, as always with my Cake Smashes, we started the session with some timeless portraits. Sometimes as this age babies can be wary of strangers so Jacob, mum and I played with a few toys and sang some of his favourite nursery rhymes (I even learnt a new one) until he was completely at ease. I love to take my time with each baby and get to know what they do and don’t like. Then I can capture some gorgeous smiles and Jacob did not disappoint here. Such a smiley little boy!

Here he is with his special teddy, and again on my plane prop.  You’d never know but he wasn’t too fond of the plane at first – but after bit of play time he soon loved it.

 

 

 

 

 

If you’ve got, or have had an almost one year old, then you’ll know that they don’t have the longest of attention spans. They quickly loose interest in one thing and this is what is great about doing the cake at the end – just as they are beginning to loose interest in the photo shoot, you bring out the cake and they have something else to concentrate on and explore.

 

 

Jacob LOVED his cake and made the most of being let loose on it and being allowed a sweet treat, stopping from eating only momentarily for a quick giggle!
