Do I look Christmasy in this?
If you’ve booked in for a Christmas photo shoot then no doubt you will be thinking about what to dress your children in. You want your images to look amazing after all, and carefully planning the wardrobe will add the prefect finishing touch to your images. So what should you wear for your Christmas photo shoot?
First of all you should ask yourself, what the theme or set ups are there going to be? Of course the theme revolves around Christmas so reds, greens, golds, silver, sparkles and tartans are fantastic go to’s that will all work. But a photo is a story and so each element needs to help tell that story, so we can perfect the outfits even further……
My Christmas mini sessions have three set ups this year. Depending on which day you’re booked in for your outfit choice is going to be different:
Santa’s Bench
Saturday 10th November 2019 is the day of Santa Mini photography Sessions. The set up this year is a lovely outdoor scene. Santa and the children are sat on a bench surrounded by Christmas Trees. Outdoors in winter in the UK is naturally cold so hats, scarves and coats will work well. If you don’t wish your children to wear outdoor attire then long sleeves are best – it’s not a summers days after all! Santa will be dressed up warm in his jolly red traditional outfit.
Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November 2019 are my Christmas Mini Photo sessions. There are two sets ups on both days and you can choose to use one, or both if you’d like to.
The Christmas Bed
The first is a bed set. This involves the kids sitting on a bed, getting all cosy and eating cookies – we’re not going to mention the crumbs in bed lol. Christmas PJ’s will be ideal. If you have more than one child, matching PJs are really cute. If you don’t fancy Christmas pyjamas, green, red or tartan ones will also work well.
Snowy Forest
Set up two is snowy outdoors. Kids can wear woolly hats, scarves and warm coats which they can just slip back on over their PJs after the first scene. Depending on what their first outfit is like, a change of their bottom halves would be a great idea so they don’t look like they are outdoors in the nightwear. There is going to be an opportunity to post a letter to Santa here so if your little ones like to write to Father Christmas you are welcome to bring your letters along 🙂
I’ve made a Pinterest board for you with real ideas that are available in the shops now to help you out.

Christmas minis aren’t just for the kids mind you. If you’d like to have a family photo you’re very welcome to tie in your outfits and get in on the fun too!
It you’re looking for idea on what to wear for other sessions, fellow photographer Jill, from Light of My Life Photography has you covered. You can read her blog here for ideas on what to wear for a simple baby photography session. Her work is beautiful, so head over and take a look.
